Ola Lee McWilliams England, 89, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Manorhouse Assisted Living in Chattanooga. She was born at the Fred Welch Place on Flat Top Mountain. During World War II she worked at the Chattanooga Stamping & Enameling Company which was used as a defense plant during the war. Ola retired from DuPont’s Chattanooga plant after 32 years of service and was the first female to qualify for T37 spinning. She was a member of Daisy United Methodist Church, the Quilters and the Soddy-Daisy Community Choir. After retirement she became a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Hamilton County Nursing Home and volunteered several days a week. She was a former member of the Chattanooga Track Club and won several races in her age bracket. She continued running daily until 2014. She loved to quilt, crochet, knit, embroidery, sew and tat. She donated many of her items to charities and gave many to family and friends. After her husband’s death, Ola’s constant companion was her beloved Yorkie, Charlie Brown. They loved to walk and run together and spend weeks each fall in one of our state or national parks. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Grace Bowman McWilliams; husband, George Elmer England; brother, John Thomas McWilliams (KIA in WWII); son-in-law, Randall Lee Hixson (KIA in Vietnam) and nephew, Gilbert Wayne McWilliams.
