- [S16] Obituary.
December 15, 1933 ~ February 29, 2020
Bobby Eugene Ables, 86, of Soddy Daisy TN, left this earth on February 29, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jessie, who was the love of his life, his parents, Herman and Dorothy Ables, his sister Betty Hobson and her husband Roddy, brothers, John, Tom, and Jim and his wife Jackie.
He is survived by his children, Jeff Ables(Robin), David Ables(Julie), Christie Fine(George), and was a wonderful Papa to his five grandchildren, Brian Ables(Laura), Heather Sikes(David), Niki Ables, Jessie Burnstein (Robbie), and Marie Ables, as well as his seven great grandchildren, Dallas, Peyton, and Grace Ables and Nathan, Olivia, Abby, and Megan Sikes. He is also survived by his brothers Pete (Rhonda), Buck (Nancy), Jerry (Doris), and sister n law Cathy Ables. Bobby and his late wife Jessie were also honorary grandparents to Heather, Kaleb, Aaron, and Luke Lankster and Issac and Imri Yother. They always had enough love to go around to any child who walked through their doors. They loved more than anything in the world to have children running through their home whether it was their grandchildren by birth or not.
Bobby graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1952 and joined the Army shortly afterwards. He was in Korea from 1952-1954 and served his country honorably.
He was a conductor with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 37 years until he retired in 1997. He had many friends there that he considered an extended part of his family, and he enjoyed his monthly meetings with his retired railroad buddies.
Bobby was a member of Soddy Daisy First Baptist Church for 44 years and an active member of the church food bank in his later years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Bobby was a member in good standing with the Daisy Masonic Lodge No. 706 F&AM for 62 years.
He was an avid gardener and took great pride and joy over his yearly crops. He also loved his chickens and goats, and he never took money for his eggs, but gave them freely. All of his family and friends knew they could stop by the house to pick up a dozen eggs and have a sit on the porch for a visit.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Adoration Hospice, and especially nurse Amy for such wonderful, compassionate care during his last days. Also, we could not have kept our Mom and Dad at home like they wanted without the help of neighbors, Susan and Kenny Yother, who loved him like their own father. They were always there to help with whatever needed to be done in the moment, from chicken wrangling to just hanging out on the back porch with a cold watermelon spitting seeds off into the yard. Thank You!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Soddy Daisy First Baptist Church Food Bank or St Jude Hospital in honor of Bobby’s great granddaughter, Megan Sikes, whose life was recently saved by St Jude’s wonderful care.
Visitation is 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Seton Tomyn and Pastor Jeffrey Ables officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
Condolences and memories can be shared at www.williamsonandsons.com.
