Ruth AV Dukes Aslinger, 90, of Sale Creek, entered into the gates of heaven from her home lovingly surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 8, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Christopher Columbus Dukes and Nellie Lela Lambeth Dukes; husband, Archie Raymond Aslinger; son, Raymond Glenn “Bubby” Aslinger and son-in-law, Bill Holland and all her siblings. She was a member of Sale Creek First Baptist Church where she devoted many years of service and a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department. She was a proud 1945 graduate of Peter F. Alba High School in Bayou La Batre, Alabama and loved her principal, Miss Alma Bryant. Ruth grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast and made many trips to visit with her family that she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Billie Carol Holland; daughter-in-law, Patti Aslinger; sons, Tim Aslinger (Donna) and Doyle Aslinger; daughters, Beverly Hutcheson and Tina Aslinger; son, James “Jimbo” Aslinger (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Mark Holland (Trisha), Miki Miles (Gary), Sarah Standifer, Lanita Copas (Eric), Jennifer Ellis (Chris), Julie Aslinger, Andrew Aslinger (Maelena), Josh Aslinger (Jennifer), Mandy White and Ann AV Aslinger; great grandchildren, Hannah, Ashley and Caroline Holland, Colton and Mallory Miles, Logan and Savannah Standifer, Ryder and Asa Copas, Blake and Madilynn Ellis, Mason Aslinger, Madison, EmiLee and Ansley White and many loving nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the newest member of our family, Terri Ruff of Sharon’s Home Services, who gave companionship, love and compassion to our mother for the past year. We would like to also thank Hospice of Chattanooga for your assistance in this journey the past four months.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sale Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Redden officiating. If needed, overflow can watch the funeral projected in the Fred Skillern Community Room at Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Burial will follow at Rhea Memory Gardens with Donnie Hodge, Tommy Aslinger, Rocco Carpenter, Russell Steiner, Derrick Steiner and Daryle Steiner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons. Visitation is Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth was an avid University of Tennessee fan and loved going to watch the Lady Vols play basketball. When Pat Summitt announced her fight with Alzheimer’s Mama became concerned and would ask about her regularly. In lieu of flowers, donations or memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Pat Summitt Foundation or to Sale Creek First Baptist Church.
