Thomas “Tommy” Irwin, 77, of Soddy-Daisy passed away November 14, 2011, at a local healthcare facility. He retired from Dupont in electronics after 37 years. He was a member of Soddy United Methodist Church, and of Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM and the Scottish Rites. He graduated from Soddy Daisy High School Class of 1952 where he played football, baseball, basketball, and also played in the band during halftime. He was a loyal Tennessee Vol fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Caldwell and niece, Debbie Irwin Taylor, mother and father-in-laws, George and Dorothy Teague.
He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Teague Irwin of Soddy Daisy; son, Dr. Chip (Dawn) Irwin of Rapid City, Illinois; daughters, Karen (Jeff) Ward of Soddy Daisy, and Katherine (Kerry) Welker of Loveland, Ohio; brother, George Irwin of Red Bank; brother in laws, John (Judy) Teague, and Paul (Suzanne) Parrot; 9 nieces and nephews; 8 grandchildren, Katie (Derick) Urton, Megan Ward, Joseph Welker, Andy Ward, Blake Irwin, Taylor Irwin, Alex Welker, and Max Welker.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Soddy United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Scoggins officiating. Mr. Irwin will lie in state one hour prior to the service (1:00-2:00) at the church. Interment will follow the service in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 -9:00 PM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Irwin’s memory to Soddy United Methodist Church, 255 Depot Street, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379.
