Luther was the son of Andrew Campbell Smith and Etta Caroline Springfield/Smith.
Luther was married to Lillian Jeanette Peacock/Smith for 58 years, until his death. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters. Their two sons, W. L. (1995) & Pete ( 1980) have both passed away. Their daughter, Polly, died 5/23/2007. The youngest sister, Jeanette died 2/2017. One daughter, Avon, still survives. She is now 102 years old.
Luther had a number of jobs. He owned two restaurants in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, but they went under during the depression years. He was a prison guard in Florida after the restaurants failed. He later because a travelling shoe salesman for Otho-vent shoes, selling shoes from the trunk of his car. he did that until his severe heart attach in 1964. It occurred while he was driving with his wife Lillie, they were going to vote for Kennedy. He was driving - she could not drive. He beat on his chest while driving himself to the hospital. He was in the hospital for several months and never worked again. He had many more heart attacks over the next few years, but the first one did the most damage.
Luther like very much to hunt and often brought home rabbits, squirrels, etc for foot on the table. He smoked a pipe for all the years I knew him (as his granddaughter) - smoked Prince Albert tobacco. most of his brothers died from heart trouble. Two of them were killed and McKinley died of blood posioning.
