Joe Dean Gooden, 75, of Hixson went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in an area hospital.
Mr. Gooden retired from Combustion Engineering after 31 years of service and then later retired from Dillard Smith Construction Company. He was United States Army Veteran and was a dedicated member of Middle Valley Baptist Church for 40 years. Joe was Master of Daisy Lodge #706 F&AM in 1975 as well as a 50 year member. He also was a member of Daisy OES Chapter 328 and the Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed C. and Lena Gooden; brothers, E.C. Gooden, Clawson Gooden and Frank Gooden and sisters, Alma Sneed and Iris Dean.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Gooden of Hixson; son, Joseph Mark Gooden of Red Bank; brothers, Clay Gooden, Darvwin Gooden, Levan Gooden, all of Hixson and B.O. Gooden and Carl Gooden, both of Soddy-Daisy; sister, Phyllis Upton of Gainsville, FL; his two grandchildren that he raised, Tyler Austin Gooden and Nicholas E. Gooden and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Hensley officiating. A Masonic service will be provided by Daisy Lodge #706 F&AM. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
