After a lengthy struggle against cancer, Ronnie Wayne Cox, 71, passed at his home in Soddy Daisy on July 28th. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Cox; wife, Beverly Cox; and parents, John and Odessa Cox. He is survived by son, Eric Cox and siblings, Arthur L. Cox (Cathy), Johnny M. Cox (Gloria), and Melinda Lynn Reynolds (Terry), as well as many nieces and nephews.
As a Marine, Ronnie proudly served in Vietnam as a sniper and an MP, receiving several service medals ; afterward , he continued his military service in the Army National Guard for a total of twenty-four years, including the years of the first Desert Storm initiative. In the private sector, Ronnie worked for many years at DuPont and later at TVA. In retirement, Ronnie enjoyed fishing and building large scale models of airplanes and Army tanks, a passion which led him to become active as member of the Hixson Museum of Flight, where he was known as “Gunny.” His main focus was the deli Ayana reconstruction of the last BTD-1 Destroyer Aircraft from WWII.
Ronnie will certainly be missed by family and friends alike; he requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy-Daisy.
