Millie Judd Swafford, 79, of Falling Water, passed away early on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2012. Born in Big Springs, Tennessee, she moved to Chattanooga in 1955. She was co-pastor of Falling Water House of Prayer with her husband until his death in 2009. She worked at Cutter Lab until she moved to Falling Water in 1964. Millie wrote over 3,000 songs, produced 8 Albums and wrote her autobiography and a daily devotional. She wrote many poems that were published in the Chattanooga Times. Many people in the community benefited from the food bank, clothes closet and coats for the cold projects she operated. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jewell Swafford.
Survivors include her children, Ronald Swafford, John Swafford, Joe (Janis) Swafford, Nancy (Marc) Simpson, David (Martha) Swafford, Mary (Jon) Stone; sister, Wilma Copeland; brother, Stanley Judd; grandchildren, Ron Swafford, Robin (Todd) Jensen, Renee (Benny) Slaven, Scottie (April) Swafford, Jaime (Kevin) Whitfield, Joseph (Summer) Swafford, Joel (Norina) Swafford, Rachel Simpson, Ben (Cassy) Simpson, Zach Simpson, Emily Swafford, Amelia Swafford, Jake Swafford, Aleksandra Stone and Dmitri Stone; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at National Cemetery with Scottie Swafford, Joseph Swafford, Cody Slaven, Zach Simpson, Ben Simpson and Kevin Whitfield serving as pallbearers. Visitation is Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross.
