Zora Whalen
Zora Azalee Whalen, 91, of Soddy-Daisy, went to be with the Lord at her home on Tuesday, April 21, 2009.
Zora was born Aug. 26, 1917 in Fort Payne, Ala. She became an orphan at the age of five and was the oldest living orphan of Chambliss Children's home. She devoted her life to her family and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Knox Whalen Sr.; her son, Raymond "Sonny" Whalen Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Erica Whalen and Amanda Whalen.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy (Gloria) Whalen, of Soddy-Daisy; brother-in-law, Gene Whalen, of Soddy-Daisy; sister-in-law, Violet Jenkins, of Boise Idaho; grandchildren, Brad (Denise) Whalen, of Hixson, Pat (Linda) Whalen, of Soddy-Daisy; Bart (Denise) Whalen, of Soddy-Daisy, Wendy (Dana) Evett, of Soddy-Daisy, Pam (Mike) Staussberger, of New Orleans, La.; and many great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for all their support and kindness. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, Chambliss Children's Home or The Ronald McDonald House.
Services for Zora Whalen will be held at 7 p.m. today, April 23, 2009, in the Legacy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
