Pvt. Wilburn R. Penney has returned to Kennedy General Hospital atMemphis after spending a 30-day furlough with his wife and daughter atSoddy. He recently returned from the European theater where he servedwith an armored division in France, Belgium and Germany.

TUSCALOOSA -- Wilburn Russell Penney, 84, 1745 Jack Warner Parkway,died September 24, 2000 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will beat Sunset Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Vial Fountenot officiating.Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hourprior to services. Sunset Funeral Home is directing
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Penney; daughter Arlene Chissom(Brad); two grandchildren, Russ Chissom (Kristy) and Penney Chissom(Chris) Davis.
Mr. Penney was born in Tennessee. He served in the Battle of theBulge in WWII in U. S. Army. He moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1952and came to Tuscaloosa in 1996.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to theInternational Department, First Baptist Church, or charity of your choice.

TUSCALOOSA -- Wilburn Russell Penney died Sunday, September 24, 2000,in an area hospital. He was 84. Mr. Penney served in the U. S. Army,World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include his wife,Rachel Penney; and a daughter, Arlene Chissom; and two grandchildren.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Home, in Northport,Alabama, with Vial Fontenot officiating. Burial will be one hour priorto the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset MemorialPark.

Thomas Penney, aged 74, died at his home here after an illness of a fewdays. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock inthe Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by the Reverend Carl Nichols,pastor of Soddy Church, and the Reverend J. L. Chaney of Chattanooga.Interment took place in the family burying ground near Soddy. He issurvived by his widow and eleven children and several brothers andsisters.

Thomas married Sophronia G. Kearns on 29 Jan 1903. Mrs. Sophronia Penney James 89, Soddy Tennessee, died Thursday at theresidence. She was a member of Soddy First Baptist Church. Survivingare three sons, Jess E. Penney, Soddy; James R. Penney, Chesterfield,South Carolina; Wilburn Penney, St. Petersburg, Florida; one daughter,Mrs. Blanche Abernathy, Soddy, with whom she resided; 10 grandchildren;several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Saturdayfrom the Soddy First Baptist Church, conducted by the Reverend J. C.Noland and the Reverend J. v. Angel. Soddy, Tennessee, January 21 - Funeral services over the body of Mrs.Pliney Jane Penney, who died at the advanced age of 91 years Fridaymorning, were held this morning on the lawn of the old home place, aboutseven miles from Soddy. Interment took place in the family cemetery.The services were conducted by the Reverend J. M. Hampton, Methodistminister. The deceased is survived by five sons, Sam, Thomas, John,George, and Joseph, and three daughters, Mrs. W. R. Mysinger, at whosehome the deceased died, and Mrs. Robert Roberts, both of Soddy, and Mrs.H. Carden of Daisy, Tennessee. Several grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren survive.
