  1. 1.  Sarah Gann was born in in Hamilton County, Tennessee (daughter of Alfred Gann and Susanna); died on 27 Jan 1910 in Soddy, Hamilton County, Tennessee; was buried in Soddy Presbyterian Cemetery, Soddy-Daisy, Hamilton County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

    From her Widow's Pension Application, Pension Certificate Number292,798, for Sarah (Sallie) Penney: 19 August 1890. Her statement isthat she was married to Miles P. Penney on 20 August 1852 by Daniel S.Jones at "My Sister's" (?) Jeffeson Gann's Home. Another statement byElisha Gann (Sallie's first cousin), age 63, states that he waspersonally present when the rites of matrimony were solemnized betweenthem and an eyewitness to the ceremony. He was chosen and acted in thecapacity of one of the waiters of the occasion, and that they weremarried at Jefferson Gann's. Other statements by A. H. Levi and JacobBarnes, who were 55 and 75 years of age, state that Sallie has no meansof support through he daily labor, and that her husband Miles P. Penneywas no doubt accidentally drowned on 25 December 1877 while crossingClifts Mill Dam in a boat. Later statements in this file by John JosephPenney youngest son of Miles and Sallie Penney attests to the death ofhis mother on 27 January, 1910. Sallie also states that her husband's(MILES) first wife is dead.
    Sallie died on 27 January 1910 and should be buried next to Miles atthe Presbyterian Cemetery, Soddy, Hamilton County, Tennessee, but thereis no marker. Evan Penney says that she is buried on the right ofChristopher Columbus Penney, again there is no marker.
    Sallie's brother Russell Gann was married to Caroline M. Becknell, afull blooded Cherokee.

    Sarah married Miles Pinckney Penney on 20 Aug 1852 in Soddy, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Miles was born in in Virginia; died on 25 Dec 1877 in Soddy, Hamilton County, Tennessee; was buried in Soddy Presbyterian Cemetery, Soddy-Daisy, Hamilton County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
