1. David Giles was born on 27 Feb 1836 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (son of Thomas Giles and Mary Evans); died on 23 Jul 1910 in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Notes:
David Giles, president of the Chattanooga Foundry and Pipe Works, was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., February 27,1836, son of Thomas and Mary (Evans) Giles, natives of Wales. David Giles was reared to manhood in his native State and in Ohio. He learned the iron business in Pennsylvania, being a practical molder by trade. In 1857 he came South and accepted a position as foreman of a foundry at Nashville, where he continued until 1866, when he established a foundry in that city and conducted it successfully for one year, when Mr. C. B. Isbester became a partner, and these gentlemen, in 1877, moved the foundry to Chattanooga. Mr. Giles has been president of the present stock company since its organization as a stock company in July, 1882. He is a Republican in politics, a Knight of Honor, and is recognized as a reliable and enterprising business man and citizen. Goodspeed's "History of East Tennessee" 1887
